Let’s Pretend
A Show by Sean A. Garrison
We like to pretend that the age of bewilderment has passed, don’t we? Still, people will search the sky for signs and portents, they will roll dice believing that an act of will alone can change the result, they will deny the existence of free will and they will exchange the displays of magicians and priests for AI companions who will dance for them without complaint or fatigue.
The idea that ancient archetype, symbolism and deep, joyous superstition has left us is bemused at best. To fight against its continued potency and power is absolutely futile. Each generation -going back 10,000 years- has declared an end to the childhood of the human species and a dawn of a new and righteous age.
Let’s make believe that this time it’s for real. Let us pretend the way they did, when they did sacrifice and pointed at the darkening of the mid-day sun.
ABOUT Sean Garrison
I was born Sept. 13, 1967 in Louisville, Ky. My initial academic interests were medieval history and sociology but I eschewed these more reasonable topics for a life completely immersed in contemporary music and art, signing my first recording contract at age 20 with Virgin Records. My legitimate vocational work included 18 years with a rare book dealer, ten years as an assistant technical director at the Louisville Ballet and few years as a coating inspector for elevated water tanks. I have devoted all my available free time to visual art for the last 25 years. I am married to Ms. Kara Williams.
