Letitia Quesenberry
ABOUT Letitia Quesenberry
Trained in drawing, Letitia Quesenbery has morphed her practice into the construction of 3-D objects focused on geometric forms and patterns. Squares bounded by rectangles refer to the iconic structure of SX70 Polaroids, as well as ephemerally surfaced tondo, sometimes populated with lights. They are beautiful .They are meant to confuse. They are false photographs of thoughts, pure and vivid. And yet, the body is complicit.
Letitia Quesenberry (b. 1971, Louisville KY) lives and works in Louisville, KY. She received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Cincinnati. An investigation of belief, sight and perception has preoccupied Quesenberry for over three decades, driving her body of work that spans painting, photography, sculpture and installation. Through the play of materials, surface and process, Quesenberry creates a layered hypnotic experience that extends beyond the visual. Recent exhibitions include New Discretions, New York; David Smith Gallery, Denver; Eric Firestone Gallery, New York; 57W57, New York; Ryan Lee Gallery, New York; Kentucky Museum of Art and Craft, Louisville; Speed Art Museum, Louisville. She is the recipient of grants from SouthArts, Great Meadows Foundation, as well as the Al Smith Fellowship, the Efroymson Contemporary Arts Fellowship, and the Vermont Studio Center Helen Frankenthaler Fellowship.
